The idea
Continuous integration checks merged or proposed changes through repeatable build and test steps. Continuous delivery keeps a release deployable, while continuous deployment can automate release under a defined policy. Passing tests does not prove every operational condition, so define relevant checks and gates explicitly.
Worked example
A fictional pipeline installs dependencies, checks types, runs focused tests and builds an artifact. Deployment remains a separate authorized stage. A green formatting job alone would not establish that the application builds or that its payment configuration is correct.
Try it
Design a five-stage pipeline for a fictional service. State each input, output and failure condition. Identify which stage validates code and which authorizes release, and name one operational requirement the unit tests cannot establish.
