The idea

A useful prompt names the task, audience, relevant context, constraints and output format. Include authorized source material when accuracy depends on it. Ask the model to identify missing information instead of guessing. Start with one repeatable task rather than trying to automate an entire job.

Worked example

For a weekly update, provide three fictional completed tasks and one blocker. Ask for a 100-word message to the project team with headings for progress and next steps. Specify that dates and achievements must come only from the supplied notes.

Try it

Write a prompt for a fictional weekly update. Identify its task, audience, context, constraints and format. Compare a draft against each requirement and revise one instruction that was unclear.
